Otsuka to produce and sell more fluids
OTSUKA Holdings Co, a major Japanese pharmaceutical company, intends to boost production and sales of high-end nutritional supplements in the Chinese market to meet rising demand.
China Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co, the company’s Chinese subsidiary, will build new assembly lines to boost the production of fluids packaged in soft bags, Japan’s Nikkei Newspaper reported. The expansion will help the company reach a capacity of 670 million units a year, three times the current level, the newspaper added.
Otsuka plans to increase output for the China market, and the company has invested at least 1 billion yuan (US$161 million) in its three plants in China and will “carry out further investment as required,” spokesman Hideki Shirai told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
Shirai added the company plans to raise the number of sales representatives to 500 from 300 now, and to hit 3.1 billion yuan in sales of transfusion fluids in China by 2019.
The transfusion fluids packaged in plastic bottles and soft bags, which are manufactured in the company’s factories in Tianjin, Dalian in Liaoning Province and Shunde in Guangdong Province, help patients get enough water and nutrients.
