Park eyed to boost Shanghai duty-free sales

TWO Chinese travel companies plan to open a duty-free industrial park in Shanghai’s Songjiang District to give tax-free sales in the city a massive boost.

China International Travel Service Group Corp has signed a framework agreement with Sheshan International Travel and Vacation Park to set up the 400,000-square-meter industrial park in the district, Wenhui Daily reported yesterday, without revealing the time frame for the project.

The park’s duty-free store, expected to serve tourists in Shanghai and nearby regions, will be the biggest domestically, surpassing the 72,000-square-meter store which opened in September in Sanya in Hainan Province, according to the newspaper, which didn’t give the size of the store.

The park will also offer high-end services such as international exposition, forum spaces and luxury retailing. The park will have museums for selected luxury brands to display their limited editions.
