Ranking shows domestic firms closing gap
HOMEGROWN retailers and manufacturers are closing the gap in market positions between them and multinational companies, according to a recent study.
RT-Mart improved its ranking in the past year and overtook Wal-Mart to become the top retailer by performance while JD.com became the first online retailer in the top 10, jumping from No. 11 in 2014 to seventh spot last year, retail consultancy Kantar Retail said in a research released yesterday.
Wal-Mart slipped to No. 2, followed by CRV, Yonghui and Carrefour.
Retailers have identified working with important consumer brands, a clear strategy, profitability and understanding shopper insights as key factors for their success.
For consumer goods manufacturers, P&G, Unilever and Coca-Cola were the top players by performance and they retained their rankings from a year ago.
Yili improved eight notches to No. 8 due to its growth potential and innovative marketing strategy, the first time a Chinese firm has entered the top-10 list.
