Sanofi sees mainland sales grow 8.8% in 2014
FRENCH pharmaceutical giant Sanofi said sales in China’s mainland grew 8.8 percent last year due to strong sales of cardiovascular and diabetes drugs.
The mainland’s sales growth nearly doubled the global increase of 4.9 percent.
Mainland sales were worth 1.6 billion euros (US$1.8 billion), compared with the global figure of 33.8 billion euros.
Sanofi hopes to continue to increase its market share for diabetes drugs and vaccine business as one of its main business growth engines in the coming year, Jean-Luc Lowinski, senior vice president of Sanofi Asia and president of Sanofi China, told a media briefing in Shanghai.
The company will also expand into lower-tier cities and counties by offering high-quality generic drugs at affordable prices, and Lowinski said Sanofi is open to discussions about launching new OTC products by collaborating with domestic drug companies.
