Scots eye expanding Chinese appetite
SCOTLAND will double food and drink exports to China in the next 10 years by targeting more affluent buyers in the world's biggest grocery market.
The Scottish Development International, a government agency that helps Scottish companies export and invest overseas, formed a strategic tieup with the World Association of Chefs' Societies yesterday in Shanghai to lift Scottish food and drink exports to Asia.
"Asia has become a vital market for Scotland. Food and drink exports to the region rose more than 40 percent last year," Anne MacColl, chief executive of SDI, said yesterday. "For the Chinese market, the figure increased 44 percent to 92 million pounds (US$146 million)."
Scottish Food and Drink said it plans to double food and drinks exports to China in the next 10 years.
