Shanghai, JD.com tie up in smart city
SHANGHAI and Nasdaq-listed e-commerce group JD.com yesterday agreed to work to power the building of a smart city and team up in cloud computing and Internet finance.
The city will collaborate with JD.com in Internet finance, cloud computing, startup incubator and modern logistics, a statement said.
JD.com plans to set up its national headquarters for its O2O (online-to-offline) business subsidiary Jingdong Daojia in the city’s Yangpu District. At the end of 2015, JD.com has about 20,000 employees in Shanghai.
JD.com plans to expand its offerings on Daojia by investing to improve its logistics capabilities and set up a strategic investment platform for more partnerships and consumers.
The city will also support JD.com to develop its O2O services in Shanghai, with the e-commerce group also allowed to take part in health care reforms in the city.
“Shanghai is willing to offer a platform and create a better business environment for companies from home and abroad, and we hope more new business models and formats will come from Shanghai,” Mayor Yang Xiong said yesterday.
JD.com also plans to collaborate deeply with local firms and quicken the integration of the city’s real economy and Internet economy.
The deal was signed by Vice Mayor Zhou Bo and JD.com Vice President Huang Dongsheng yesterday.
