Shanghai to get Legoland
THE first Legoland Discovery Center in Shanghai is expected to open in the spring of 2016 as the company behind the leisure attraction intends to further expand its footprint in the city.
The UK’s Merlin Entertainments Group Ltd said yesterday that it will invest almost 100 million yuan (US$16.1 million) in the nearly 3,000-square-meter indoor facility inside Parkside Plaza in the city’s Putuo District.
Designed as a playground for families with children from 3 to 10 years old, the indoor attraction will start construction in the second quarter of 2015, and open to public in the spring of 2016, Merlin said.
The world’s second-largest leisure company operates Madame Tussauds and Changfeng Ocean World Aquarium in Shanghai, as well as 10 other facilities in Asia.
