Shanghai to keep No. 1 spot in IPTV
SHANGHAI will retain its No.1 ranking in China’s IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) market when its user base hits more than 3 million by the end of 2016, service providers China Telecom and SMG said yesterday.
Shanghai has more than 2 million IPTV users so far and the figure is expected to reach 3 million by the end of this year since the format debuted a decade ago, according to Shanghai Telecom.
Audiences are able to take advantage of the boom in interactive IPTV features covering video on demand and value-added services like TV shopping.
New technologies like virtual reality will be added to the local IPTV services in order to draw more consumers.
The huge user volume will allow Shanghai Telecom to launch smart home services integrating high-speed broadband network, IPTV and an open platform capable of new services like security monitoring, healthcare and smart hardware support, said Jin Jianfeng, general manager of the company, without releasing other details.
