Singapore hotelier aims to raise presence
PAN Pacific Hotels Group, a Singapore-listed hotel subsidiary of UOL Group Ltd, one of Asia's established hotel and property companies, plans to extend its footprint to more than 10 Chinese cities over the next five years from its existing presence in three cities as demand from travelers is expected to grow robustly.
The Singapore-based company, which runs a global portfolio of more than 30 properties under two brands - the premium Pan Pacific and the upscale Parkroyal - has already opened two hotels in China. It has also secured a management contract for the third hotel.
"We hope to add about five hotels a year over the next five years to expand our China network," said Eric Levy, senior vice president for growth and development with PPHG, in Shanghai yesterday. "Shanghai and Beijing are definitely the cities we are most keen to enter while we will also be very interested in tapping the southern and western parts of the country such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu."
The hospitality group, which is well represented in Asia and North America, opened Pan Pacific Xiamen in Fujian Province last August and Pan Pacific Suzhou in Jiangsu Province in January. The third hotel, whose brand is undecided, is scheduled to open in Tianjin in 2012, the company said.
China is one of the most attractive countries for global hoteliers due to rising demand from domestic and overseas travelers, analysts said.
