Singles Day base relocates to Beijing
ALIBABA will relocate the base for this year’s Singles Day shopping festival on November 11 to Beijing as the annual event enters its seventh year.
Beijing has the greatest influence in the country and around the globe and serves as an excellent starting point for Alibaba’s long journey from China to the globe, Daniel Zhang, CEO of Alibaba Group, said yesterday.
Globalization is the key theme of November 11 from this year onward, Zhang told an event at Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou.
“We view it as a good chance to build a good trading platform for buyers and sellers as we’re eying to serve 2 billion consumers in the next decade in the global market,” he said.
Alibaba said it’s opening offices in Italy, France and Germany in the coming months as well as mulling growth in the US, other Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.
“We hope this would build a solid global foundation for current and future international growth,” said Michael Evans, Alibaba’s president for international expansion.
