Subsidy spurs home appliance sales
CHINA'S old-for-new home appliance subsidy program has spurred sales of more than 9 million units in Shanghai over the past two years, the Shanghai Commission of Commerce said yesterday.
Shanghai was one of the first nine cities nationwide that introduced the program, which had helped residents replace home appliances since June 2009, as China boosted domestic demand. The program was later expanded to 28 provinces and regions.
From August 2009 to last month, 9.03 million televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and computers were sold in Shanghai, or a total sales revenue of 33.9 billion yuan (US$5.4 billion), according to the commission.
