'Super Single's Day' promotions spark online shopping sales boom

A DOZEN of online shopping websites launched massive sales promotions to cash in on today's "Super Single's Day" celebration.
360buy.com offered discounts of up to 90 percent for some consumer electronics models.
At Dangdang.com, consumers who spend 1,500 yuan (US$236) or more on the website qualify for a lucky draw to win one of three BMWs. More than 1,000 its vendors are offering more than 50 percent discount on goods.
Taobao Mall, the country's largest online retailer, said their transaction volumes had already reached 1 billion yuan in the first 10 hours of today.
Last year, more than 936 million yuan worth of goods were sold at Taobao Mall on Single's Day.
