Tourists splurge out
TOURIST spending in Hong Kong hit a new high of HK$209.98 billion (US$26.99 billion) last year, an increase of 32.7 percent from 2009, the Hong Kong Tourism Board said yesterday.
Tourists from the Chinese mainland continued to have the highest per capita spending for both overnight stays at HK$7,453 and HK$2,356 for same-day, in-town visits, the board said.
Its chairman, James Tien, said Hong Kong welcomed 36.03 million visitors last year, up 21.8 percent from 2009.
