UK eyes China鈥檚 green buildings
BRITAIN is seeing business opportunity worth as much as 200 million pounds (US$337 million) in the Chinese green construction sector, Business Secretary Vince Cable said yesterday.
A private organization, Building Research Establishment which was known as the UK Trade & Investment, a former British government body, has signed an agreement with the government of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province to establish a center to train and promote services of green construction standards across China.
The organization said it intends to certify more than 1,000 buildings across China to its standards which will create an income of 10 million pounds and could generate up to 200 million pounds of work for British supply chain companies.
Although the green building market in China is at an early stage, the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of green buildings in recent years.
“We are excited by the collaboration with the Shenzhen government and supporting them to achieve their goal to be the greenest city in China,” said Jaya Skandamoorthy, director of BRE China.
“We hope our international standards, research and training program will provide a platform for leading companies, British and Chinese, to collaborate on green products, technologies and buildings,” he added.
