Unilever eyes water for growth
UNILEVER China predicts the growth of its new water purifier business to top the group’s product categories in China, overtaking sales of personal care products.
By 2018, the Anglo-Dutch food and cosmetics group plans to open 2,700 experience and sales centers in China for Pureit, its water purifier brand, Yuri Jain, vice president of Unilever’s global water category, said in Shanghai yesterday.
Driven by a wealthier population and rising health awareness in China, the country could become the second-largest market for the brand after India in the next two years, he said.
Unilever is cooperating with home appliance retailers Gome and Sunning to push sales of Pureit, launched in China last year. It has also opened e-commerce sales channels.
The water business will help stimulate Unilever’s expansion in China, the firm said.
