Unilever promotes environmental protection efforts

Unilever has officially launched a digital marketing platform to promote its environmental protection efforts in China.

As a part of its "Sustainable Living Plan," first unveiled in 2010, the "Small Action, Big Difference" campaign encourages Chinese consumers do their part to reduce energy consumption by turning off lights and printing documents on both sides of the paper.

Consumers can access their profile and see their contributions on both Weibo and WeChat, or on the campaign's official website.

The Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant in 2010 vowed to cut half of its environmental footprint worldwide by 2020.

"We're working with our partners in the social media sector to learn about consumers' behavior in order to seize opportunities for our brands to better connect with customers," said Dorcas Lau, vice president for digital marketing and ecommerce at Unilever North Asia.

According to Lau, the environmental protection campaign will also offer marketing opportunities once it gains better recognition.
