CHINA'S consumer sentiment was upbeat in the fourth quarter of last year as the moderate inflation situation led to expectations of greater buying power.
The confidence index, compiled by research firm Nielsen and based on a consumer survey across the country, increased 4 points from the third quarter to 108. A reading above 100 indicates general optimism.
Consumers in rural areas, with a reading of 114 compared with the previous 110, displayed the highest confidence.
