WALT Disney Co signed a framework agreement with the Shanghai government on Thursday to build a theme park in the city, the Securities Times said yesterday, without citing anyone.
The deal was signed by the city's Vice Mayor Yang Xiong and Disney's Asia chief, who was not named by the Shenzhen-based newspaper. Details of the agreement are unclear, it added.
"As we have said before, at this time there is no agreement and no deal to build a theme park in Shanghai," Hong Kong-based Disney spokeswoman Alannah Hall-Smith said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.
No one at the Shanghai government's media department could be immediately reached for comment.
