Xinfei Electric unveils new facility and trademark

HENAN Xinfei Electric Co, one of the country's leading home appliance maker, said it is building a research and development center in Taicang, Jiangsu Province to launch products aimed at a wider range of customers.
The Henan-based air-conditioner and refrigerator producer is a unit of the Singapore conglomerate Hong Leong Group. It said it will launch new models of refrigerators at the end of this year or early next year.
Hong Leong Asia, the listed arm of Hong Leong Group, became the controlling shareholder of Xinfei in 2005 with a 90 percent stake.
Xinfei Chairman Ruan Jianping didn't disclose the amount of investment in the new facility, but said the company will cultivate a mid-level brand and increase sales in overseas markets through innovative product design and technology upgrades.
Xinfei yesterday unveiled its new trademark "Frestec" in a bid to boost its exports.
Market watchers noted that Xinfei is putting more emphasis on tapping the foreign market at a time when the domestic market is in a slump.
