Bankcard owners confidence rises 1st in 4 months

Chinese bankcard owners’ confidence rebounded for the first time in four months in July after merchants launched sales campaigns during the summer holiday.

The Bankcard Consumer Confidence Index edged up 0.05 point from a month ago and was up 1.2 points from a year ago to 86.76 points, China UnionPay, the country's sole bankcard transaction firm, said in a report today.

Non-daily necessities expenditure climbed in July as there was an increase of spending at travel-related merchants with the beginning of the summer holiday.

Spending at air ticket agents and hotels or restaurants grew 0.59 percent and 0.22 percent from a month ago, UnionPay said.

Home appliance spending also rose 0.27 percent with high temperature pushing up sales of air conditioners.
