Belgium seminar woos Chinese investors

BELGIUM is looking forward to attracting more Chinese investors to set up companies there and take advantage of the country's strategic location and preferential tax treatment, Belgian officials told a Shanghai seminar today.
Long known as the heart of Europe and being the headquarters of the European Union, Belgium is the political, trading and cultural center of Europe.
Cathy Buggenhout, general consul of Belgium in Shanghai, said Belgium is expecting more Chinese investors to go there, joining big Chinese firms like Huawei, ZTE and China Mobile which already opened branches there.
Albert Wolfs, head of the fiscal department for foreign investment under the Belgian Ministry of Finance, said the country has numerous forms of preferential tax treatment that Chinese investors can make use of.
"The preferential measures not only make the effective corporate tax rate in Belgium much lower than most other EU countries, but also make it possible for foreign executives and employees in Belgium to enjoy a variety of tax incentives," Wolfs said.
The seminar, organized by KPMG and the expatriate service company NOVA Group, also presented business opportunities in Belgium and its strength in health care, education and living conditions.
