CASS expects China's GDP to maintain growth in 2011

CHINA'S economy may expand an annualized 9.9 percent this year and grow nearly 10 percent in 2011, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said today.

In an annual economic report, the government think-tank said main factors that may influence China's economy won't change much next year, and macroeconomic policies will remain relatively stable.

There are three main factors: domestic economic dynamism, global economic environment and the strength of China's macroeconomic policies.

The report said China has been shifting to an economy driven by domestic demand since 2008. But at the same time, the country still relied heavily on investment to power its growth.

China's trade outlook remains uncertain next year because of the complicated economic situations in external markets, especially the Europe and the United States.

The estimation by the CASS was in contrast with the World Bank, which projected China's economy may grow 9.5 percent this year and 8.5 percent in 2011.

China's gross domestic product advanced 10.6 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters, with the pace slowing to 9.6 percent in the third quarter from 10.3 percent between April and June and 11.9 percent in the first three months.
