Changes to fund
Eurozone ministers are discussing changes to the bailout fund for countries that run into financial trouble, including increasing its size or giving it new powers, French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde said yesterday.
Finance ministers are preparing "a palette of measures" to ensure the stability of the 17-country currency bloc and to defend its members, Lagarde said in Paris.
Those measures could include boosting the size of the eurozone's contribution to the European Union's 750-billion-euro (US$990 billion) bailout fund or giving it new powers, such as allowing it to buy government bonds on the open market, Lagarde said.
