China regrets over US IPR watch list
CHINA urged the United States to produce a more comprehensive, objective and fairer evaluation of China's efforts to protect intellectual property rights, Ministry of Commerce Spokesman Yao Jian said today.
"The Chinese government attaches great importance to IPR protection and the efforts are effective," Yao said in a note posted on the ministry's website.
China launched a nationwide campaign last October to crack down IPR infringement and increased punishment for such crimes. The campaign was originally planned to end in March this year but has been extended for another three months.
The campaign has helped to raise public awareness of the issue and improved the market environment. Yao said China is happy to note that the US government acknowledged China had made some efforts.
"But we are regretful that the US still put China on the priority watch list for IPR violation," Yao said.
The Office of the US Trade Representative released on Tuesday the 2011 Special 301 Report, an annual review of the global state of IPR protection and enforcement. China remains on the priority watch list together with 11 other countries. The report said China is still subject to section 306 monitoring.
