China renews list of encouraged imports
CHINA published a new list of encouraged imports yesterday, aiming at expanding the imports of needed technologies, key parts, rare natural resources and environmentally friendly products.
The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce issued the new list together.
On the list are 209 kinds of high technology, including the design and production of high-performance computers and a batch of encouraged equipment for imports.
China has been beefing up efforts to reduce trade imbalance. In the first four months, China's imports rose 29.6 percent year-on-year to US$545 billion, trimming its trade surplus by 32.8 percent from a year earlier.
Yao Jian, a Ministry of Commerce spokesman, said yesterday that China will continue to bolster imports by signing more free trade agreements and streamlining government procedures.
"For example, we have made it possible for exporters to declare their goods at the customs any time in a week. The same should be done for importers," Yao said.
He also urged the United States and the European Union countries to relax their export barrier for China.
