China's October CPI growth eases to 33-month low

CHINA'S Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October rose 1.7 percent from a year earlier, down from the increase of 1.9 percent a month earlier and marking the lowest level since February 2010, the National Bureau of Statistics said today.
The figure is slightly lower than the market expectation.
Food prices, which account for a third of the weighting in the calculation of the CPI, gained 1.8 percent from a year earlier, the report showed.
China's Producer Price Index (PPI), a major gauge of inflation at the wholesale level, fell 2.8 percent last month from a year earlier, the bureau said today. That compares a decline of 3.6 percent in the prior month.
