Chinese consumer confidence rises
Chinese consumer sentiment rose for the second consecutive month in September, which came against a backdrop of improving economic indicators and followed the government’s stimulus measures in late June, a private report showed today.
The monthly measure of consumer confidence rose to 92.4 last month from 90.7 in August, Market News International, a unit of Deutsche Boerse Group, said in a report.
Of the three top-tier cities, confidence rose strongly in Beijing, increased marginally in Guangzhou, but fell in Shanghai.
“Consumer confidence picked up again in September but was still below average,” Philip Uglow, chief economist of MNI Indicators, said in the report.
“A recovery in the employment indicator was encouraging and with signs of a strengthening in economic growth, confidence could improve further,” he added.
The report was based on more than 1,000 interviews conducted in 30 cities.
