Commerce Minister confident of achieving 7.5% trade growth

China is confident of achieving its 7.5 percent trade growth target this year, Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng said this morning during the ongoing annual session of the National People’s Congress in Beijing.
He also said China has become the biggest trading partner of more than 120 countries.
“With demand recovering in developed countries and fundamentals remaining solid in emerging markets, the overall global trade environment is improving,” Gao said.
“From the domestic perspective, Chinese traders have been actively enhancing their global competitiveness. Many companies are catching up in terms of production structure and marketing… they make us confident of fulfilling the trade growth target.” Gao said.
In the government report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang on Wednesday, China set the 7.5 percent trade growth target this year, down from 2013's 8 percent goal.
China’s exports rose 7.9 percent last year and imports gained 7.3 percent for a total trade value of US$4.16 trillion in 2013, up 7.6 percent annually. It was the first time China’s trade in goods beat the US$4 trillion mark as it became the world’s biggest trading nation.
