Confidence of China's bankcard holders stable

THE confidence of China's bankcard holders remained stable in August after rebounding last month with economic data showed an improving macroeconomic situation.

The Bankcard Consumer Confidence Index dipped 0.03 percent from a month ago and was up 0.52 from a year ago to 86.73 points, China UnionPay, the country's sole bankcard transaction firm, said in a report today.

Lower spending at travel agencies and ticket booking houses pushed up daily necessities expenditures in the previous month.

Airline ticket booking transaction size was down 0.47 percent from a month ago with the summer holiday nearly coming to an end.

Spendings at alcohol and cigarette vendors also dipped 0.03 percent and jewelry expenditures were down 0.02 point after gold prices picked up.
