Consumer sentiment rebounds in eastern China, report says
CONSUMER sentiment rebounded in eastern China last month, helped by the week-long Spring Festival holiday, but weakened in the central and western regions, a private report showed.
The overall monthly indicator that measures Chinese consumer sentiment rose to 94.7 in February from 94.1 in January, Market News International, a unit of Deutsche Boerse Group, said in a report today.
"Details of the data indicate that consumers are increasingly taking a wait-and-see attitude toward the immediate future, waiting for new information about the economy and about the policies from the new government that will take office this month," the report said.
Sentiment on the real estate market picked up for the second month in a row, while consumers' willingness to buy cars improved marginally.
Confidence in the stock market declined after three consecutive monthly increases.
