East China Fair bodes well for 2013

THIS year's East China Fair will have a cheerful atmosphere when it opens this Friday because the world economy is showing signs of recovery.
You Yongsheng, an official at the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, said exhibitors have high expectations for the 2013 East China Fair, the country's earliest and biggest regional trade show.
"Exporters and importers are enthusiastic about the fair, which is expected to bring them good news of business," You said.
According to the commission, the fair organizer, about 3,500 domestic exporters have booked 115,000 square meters of booths this year, the same as last year. More than 100 companies from countries and regions like South Korea, Iran, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan will show their products in a special zone to boost exports to China.
Export orders worth US$3.12 billion were clinched at last year's fair, up 8.9 percent from a year before. However, China's total exports grew only 7.9 percent last year due to shrinking demand in Europe and the United States.
So far this year, China's exports and imports have rebounded by 25 percent and 28.8 percent year on year, respectively. Analysts said a recovering world economy helped to contribute to the increase in foreign trade.
Dubbed a barometer of China's trade, the annual East China Fair will run from March 1 to March 5 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong. It is backed by the Ministry of Commerce and sponsored by the governments of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi and Shandong provinces and the cities of Shanghai, Nanjing and Ningbo.
More than 3,000 overseas buyers from 65 countries and regions have registered for the fair through its official website.
