Event aims to bring talents and innovation to Suzhou
SUZHOU has so far attracted more than 300 highly skilled professionals, who are seeking to develop their innovative projects, to participate in the city's annual venture week this year, the city's human resources department said yesterday.
The Venture Week for International Elites, held in July at the Suzhou International Expo Center, may gather about 1,000 senior professionals and entrepreneurs specializing in areas like new energy, new materials, smart grid, nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals and biological technology, according to Suzhou's Human Resources and Social Security Bureau's Talent Development Department.
"Leading hi-tech talents play a key role in promoting industrial upgrading and innovation as China is moving from a model of made-in-China to one of created-in-China," said Xia Ming, director of the personnel bureau of the Suzhou National New & Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
Xia said the zone has unveiled 35 preferential polices to attract and cultivate talents and entrepreneurs, including offering start-up funds of up to 4 million yuan (US$645,161) each to qualified firm and subsidies of as much as 20 million yuan.
Li Peng, CEO of Suzhou Weimu Intelligent System Co Ltd who came back to China from the UK, said the "government has been very supportive throughout the commercializing of our cutting-edge technology."
Li's company has received 3 million yuan in government funding since it started in 2011, as well as working out of a rent-free office in the zone for two years.
