Foreign direct investment climbs 8.3% in Shanghai

Foreign direct investment in Shanghai expanded 8.3 percent from a year earlier in April to US$1.74 billion, according to the Shanghai Statistics Bureau.

The pace slowed from an increase of 14.2 percent in March but was better than the national average of a 3.4 percent rise last month.

Foreign investment in the city's service sector, which accounted for 92.2 percent of total FDI, rose 29.4 percent in April. Capital siphoned into the manufacturing sector dropped 81.5 percent, according to the bureau.
