Fewer people lose jobs in Taiwan
TAIWAN'S jobless rate fell slightly to 5.86 percent in November as fewer people lost their jobs due to company layoffs.
Authorities yesterday said the unemployment rate fell for the third month after reaching a high of 6.13 percent in August amid emerging signs of a global economic recovery.
A total of 645,000 were unemployed in November, down from 653,000 in October, it said in a statement.
The island's jobless rate had climbed steadily since late 2008 when exports shrank amid the global financial meltdown.
Taiwan's economy shrank 1.3 percent in the third quarter. The island has predicted a 2.5 percent fall in gross domestic product this year.
