Financial cooperation gets boost
THE financial authorities of Shanghai and Hong Kong signed a deal yesterday to strengthen financial cooperation between the two cities.
The Shanghai Financial Services Office signed a memorandum of understanding on financial cooperation with Hong Kong's Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau in Hong Kong.
The two cities will encourage financial institutions to set up branches in each other's city, training of financial professionals and developing financial markets.
The two financial bodies will also hold regular meetings annually to keep stock of each other's financial industry, the Shanghai Financial Services Office said on its Website yesterday.
The State Council, China's Cabinet, has urged Shanghai to innovate to build the city into a major financial and shipping hub by 2020.
