Firms look for Mandarin skills in hiring
PROFESSIONALS with work experience in China or speak Mandarin fluently will be highly sought by foreign companies looking to expand their operations in the country, a leading international recruitment consultancy said in a report yesterday in Shanghai.
Despite the global economic uncertainty, multinational corporations are predicted to grow their business on the Chinese mainland this year, according to a report by London-based Robert Walters. The consulting firm made its assessment from surveys of recruiting intentions by diversified industries in China and across Asia.
"The outlook in China is cautious yet upbeat as we enter 2012, despite the slowdown toward the end of fourth quarter (last year)," said Carter Yang, the firm's managing director.
The consulting firm said Mandarin skills will be a key requirement that foreign companies look for in the hiring process as they are keen to invest on the mainland and also as they localize their operations this year.
Hong Kong and Taiwan are also emphasizing Mandarin language skills in the hiring of professionals as foreign banks there seek to further strengthen their relationships with enterprises on the mainland.
