GDP soars
CHINA'S gross domestic product accounted for 9.5 percent of the world's total in 2010, nearly double the 5 percent in 2005, the country's National Bureau of Statistics said yesterday.
China's 2010 GDP was equal to 40.2 percent of the figure of the United States, up from 2005's 17.9 percent, the bureau said in a statement on its website.
It also said China's GDP ranked No. 2 in the world last year, up from No. 5 in 2005.
However, the per capita GDP of China still lagged behind most countries, the bureau said.
