HK's GDP grows 7% in real terms in Q3

HONG Kong's gross domestic product rose 6.8 percent in real terms in the third quarter over a year earlier by using chain volume measures, its Census and Statistics Department said yesterday.

Analyzed by constituent sector and on a yearly comparison, net output in all the service activities rose 6.9 percent in real terms in the quarter, compared with 6.2 percent in the second quarter.

Net output in the finance, insurance, real estate and business services sectors rose 3.6 percent in real terms in the third quarter, beating the 0.9 percent increase in the second quarter. This was mainly due to the impetus in the local stock market towards the end of the third quarter after consolidation in the second.

Net output in the wholesale, retail, import and export trades as well as the restaurant and hotel sector grew 15.2 percent in real terms, following a 16.3 percent rise in the second quarter.
