HSBC PMI in May falls to 48.4

HSBC's China Purchasing Managers' Index, a gauge of manufacturing activity slanted more towards private and export-oriented firms, fell in May to 48.4, compared with 49.3 in April, HSBC Holdings PLC announced today. A reading of 50 or higher generally indicates that activity is expanding.
