Hiring sentiment in China hits highest in 3 years

HIRING sentiment among employers in China’ mainland is the highest in more than three years with e-commerce boom driving talent demand across industries, human resource consultant Hudson said in a survey today.

It found 59.5 percent of employers across China’s mainland said they intend to raise headcount in the first half this year, up 12.1 percentage points from the second quarter in 2014, according to the survey, which covers 1,780 senior managers in multinationals and private companies. The reading was the highest since late 2011.

More than 70 percent respondents from professional services sector, including consultancy, legal services, and training, said they will expand recruitment this year, nearly doubling from the last half.

“We are seeing a consistent appetite for quality candidates across a number of sectors, with growing demand particularly for those in the professional services industry,” said Lily Bi, joint general manager of Hudson Shanghai. “In addition, China’s love affair with online shopping and the explosion of sites like Tmall are rapidly changing the skillset mix that employers need from their people.”

Demand for versatile technology and management professionals are also most sought-after in other hottest recruitment sectors such as banking and financial services, information technology, and consumer goods, where more than 60 percent employers said they will recruit more in the first half.

But the reading for property and construction sector fell to a record low of 21.1 percent reflecting the weak real estate market, the survey said.

Hiring sentiment has been stable in manufacturing and health care sectors as respectively 59.1 percent and 45.7 percent respondents giving a positive feedback.
