Leadership Development to be'No.1 HR Priority'

THE number one challenge set to face HR professionals over the coming year is that of leadership development, it has been claimed.

An article from CRF Institute notes as the economy recovers, steps need to be taken to re-structure a career ladder.

According to a research by CRF Institute, among 2009 Top Employers, "people and career development" ranks as their highest priority. Other quoted issues include innovation, winning & retaining customers, culture building and branding.

Kate Chen, General Manager, CRF China, notes that feedback from both China and Europe shows that leadership development, learning and development and talent management top the HR agenda.

"In China it is not hard to find young talents. But with the fast pace of development, various new management positions are being created and many young employees are able to get fast promotion in to management positions. Thus, the importance of cultivating leadership and management skills becomes apparent," she said.

She added that the issues of the last year could see HR professionals facing more challenges in 2010.

Recent research by the CRF Institute revealed 76% of all surveyed companies have a succession plan in place. Among them, all top employers have adopted mature plans and procedures for their succession planning to ensure future leaders to get sufficient trainings and experiences. 62% of key management or executive positions of Top Employers in 2009 are filled in by internal employees.
