Leak Angers Statistics Bureau
THE National Bureau of Statistics yesterday condemned the leaking of key economic data.
Sheng Laiyun, a bureau spokesman, said figures should only be made public on official announcement day. "The bureau is investigating the leak," Sheng said.
Reuters precisely predicted key economic data for May -- including consumer and producer prices and new yuan loans -- on Wednesday.
Reuters cited unnamed government officials, triggering wide debate over the report's legality. The day of the report, Shanghai stocks turned decidedly bullish.
