List sees record private companies
A record number of private companies made it to the list of Shanghai's 100 largest enterprises last year, according to an annual report released yesterday.
A total of 36 privately-held firms, with an average annual revenue of 8.7 billion yuan (US$1.36 billion), were included in the Top 100 List, the most since 2005 when the list was first published and also a gain of four from 2009, the Shanghai Enterprise Confederation, Shanghai Entrepreneurs Association and Shanghai Federation of Economic Organization said in a joint report.
Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corp, Baoshan Iron and Steel Co, Bailian Group, Bank of Communications and China Pacific Insurance Co maintained their spots as the city's top five enterprises in 2010 by annual revenue from a year earlier.
In 2010, the city's 100 largest companies generated a minimum annual revenue of 2.69 billion yuan, against a threshold of 1.13 billion yuan five years earlier. The number of firms with an annual revenue of over 100 billion yuan rose to seven in 2010 from three recorded five years earlier.
The revenue threshold for the 10 largest enterprises also rose to 93.3 billion yuan last year, according to the list.
In 2010, the city's 100 largest companies generated a total revenue of 3.187 trillion yuan, up 34 percent from five years earlier.
Their combined assets increased 23 percent from five years earlier to 9.775 trillion yuan last year.
