MNI China index shows business expanding in Jan

CHINA'S business sentiment continued to climb in January, five months in a row and rising at the fastest pace in nine months, a private survey showed today.
The index that tracks business conditions in China reached 55.16 this month without seasonal adjustment, up from 52.22 in December and 53.78 in November, said the Market News International (MNI), a unit of Deutsche Boerse Group, in a report today.
A reading above 50 suggests business expansion.
The sub-index that measures new orders also rose at the fastest pace since last May.
However a seasonally adjusted index showed the reading fell slightly to 55.94 from December's 56.04 and November's 55.58.
"The January result reflects the onset of the Chinese New Year holiday and wide speculation about what the new leadership will bring in terms of policies that are beneficial to industry," MNI said.
The survey was conducted between January 8 and 22 on 184 companies across the country.
