October MNI index shows China business expands
BUSINESS conditions continued to improve in China for the second straight month in October but the gains were slight and confidence remained shaky, a survey said today.
The MNI Index that measures China's business conditions expanded for a second month to 51.86 in October from 51.35 in September and 47.54 in August, Market News International, a unit of Deutsche Boerse Group, said in a statement today.
Credit crunch continued to be an issue, as a sub index that measures credit availability showed contraction.
Analysts said the government is very conservative about new spending plans ahead of the leadership change that will take place next month. The message is unlikely to be missed by companies and has been reflected in the results seen so far this year.
The survey was conducted between October 8 and 23 with 188 companies participating.
