Output grows 17%

SHANGHAI'S industrial production expanded 16.7 percent from a year earlier to 270.1 billion yuan (US$40.6 billion) in November - the same pace as in October, the Shanghai Statistics Bureau said yesterday.

But the expansion was faster than the 15.9 percent rise in September.

Comparatively, China's industrial output accelerated 13.3 percent year on year last month, up 0.2 percentage point from that in October.

The combined production of Shanghai's six key industries - electronics, auto, petrochemical, fine steel, machinery equipment and biomedical - jumped an annual 18.8 percent to 180.2 billion yuan last month, above the average growth of 16.7 percent.

Auto led the other five strategic industries when its output surged 34.4 percent year on year to 32.8 billion yuan.
