Rise in fiscal revenue accelerates for 3 months

China’s fiscal revenue growth accelerated for three months in a row in October amid a rebound in the world’s second-largest economy, the Ministry of Finance said yesterday.

The revenue, comprising income of the central and local governments, climbed 16.2 percent year on year to 1.2 trillion yuan (US$197 billion) last month, the ministry said. The revenue grew 13.4 percent in September and 9.2 percent in August.

The central government’s fiscal revenue rose 16.9 percent in October over the same month of last year to 598.5 billion yuan as the economy rebounded and trade improved.

But for the first 10 months of this year, its revenue increased 5.7 percent, missing the official target of 7 percent.

“Though the growth in the central government revenue accelerates every month amid a stable economic growth, it is very hard to meet the annual target due to a decline in import tariffs,” the ministry explained.

Meanwhile, property and land-related taxes boosted the fiscal revenues of local governments in October by 15.5 percent year on year to 615.1 billion yuan.

For the first 10 months, China’s fiscal revenue rose 9.4 percent to 11 trillion yuan, and spending climbed 10 percent to 10 trillion yuan.
