Salaries in Shanghai highest on China’s mainland, survey shows

SALARIES in Shanghai remained the highest among China’s major cities in the fourth quarter of last year with professional services sector leading all industries, online recruitment portal Zhaopin.com said in a report today.

The average salary for job openings in Shanghai was 5,891 yuan (US$942) a month, higher than 5,796 yuan in Beijing and 5,302 yuan in Shenzhen, according to the report analyzing all job postings on the website in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The best paid positions were within the professional services sector including consultant, legal, and human resource services as the average monthly salary stood at 10,154 yuan.

Nationwide, accountant and assurance positions were the best paid with the average monthly salary of 9,751 yuan.

Competition for job is the toughest in northeastern Shenyang city, while Shanghai took the 12th place among a list of 32 major cities in China.
