Sentiment climbs on income lift
CHINESE consumer sentiment climbed in March from a month ago as disposable income rose due to a bullish stock market, a ChinaUnion Pay report said yesterday.
The Bankcard Consumer Confidence Index added 2.31 points from February’s reading to 83.76, the country’s sole bankcard transaction firm said.
Expenditure on automobiles last month picked up with the value of transactions climbing 1.12 percent from February.
Spending at home appliances retailers gained 1.35 percent as demand for the products rose as consumers took advantage of easing policies on the real estate sector, the report said.
Consumers, however, spent less at supermarkets which saw a fall of 22 percent from that of February after spending on daily necessities eased after the Chinese New Year holiday.
