Sentiment of execs rises but worries linger
THE business sentiment of Chinese company executives rose in April as new orders and output increased, but they were worried over the outlook for general business conditions, a latest survey showed.
The MNI China Business Sentiment Indicator increased to 50.5 in April from 49.9 in March as sentiment among manufacturing companies improved, according to the survey released yesterday by Market News International, a unit of the Deutsche Boerse Group.
The new orders reading added 8.3 percent as demand rose sharply while the production index gained 0.9 percent.
But executives were still concerned over the sustainability of the economic recovery, with hopes for business performance in the next three months falling sharply.
“Despite the jump in new orders and employment, the survey results show that companies turned pessimistic about business conditions in the coming three months, suggesting that the recovery of the Chinese economy is unlikely to be smooth,” said Philip Uglow, chief economist of MNI Indicators.
